Bb. Pilipinas Universe Lia Ramos fails to bring home the crown
Unfortunately, Ms. Lia Andre Ramos didn’t even make it to the Top 20. Which is a shame because I think she was a good candidate. Anyhow, congratulations to Ms. Ramos for representing the country and for winning Miss Photogenic!
Peppered Blue
Joseph is wearing a horizontal striped long-sleeved polo (PhP 995) and distressed jeans (PhP 1500).
Would Davao be fashion forward if only the ladies get a makeover by Mimi? Of course not. Due to the persistent inquiries of the male companions of Pickled Pink shoppers, Mimi, and husband, Jun Tupas, expanded Pickled Pink and dedicated half of it to fashion for men. The expansion is name Peppered Blue. Peppered Blue caters the fashion needs of Davao’s stylish men. It offers casual and more formal clothes for men.
Pickled Pink
Chrissie is wearing a black and white polka dot top with shearing on the sides (PhP 395), and black and white necklaces by Mimi (PhP 395 and PhP 295).
Make Davaoeños fashion forward… that’s the goal of budding designer and entrepreneur Mimi Tupas. Mimi is the brains behind Pickled Pink, one of the trendiest boutiques in the city. When I visited the boutique, I noticed two things.
Chrissie is wearing a khaki brown dress with embroidery (PhP 1250).

Banana Leaf Asian Cafe
Although there’s no shortage of restaurants serving quality asian food in our beloved Davao City, the opening of the Banana Leaf Asian Cafe is a welcome development in the local food scene. Banana Leaf was one of my favorite restaurants in Metro Manila because of their delectable curry dishes which are so rich and flavorful. Each bite is followed by an explosion of flavors inside your mouth.

Promoting Davao City through Films and TV Shows
Countless Filipino movies have been shot abroad. Most recently, Star Cinema filmed in Milan and Dubai and used these places’ names as movie titles. GMA 7 has a show entitled I Luv New York. Cesar Montano made a movie set in Bohol. Productions companies and TV networks definitely have the means (financial and otherwise) to produce films and tv shows on locations outside Metro Manila. I think that this trend should be used by Davao City to our advantage.
There are countless picturesque locations within the city or nearby which production outfits can use for movies and tv shows. For one, we have both seaside and mountainside locations. Plus, these locations are very much accessible and near the urban center. There are also good amenities in these locations.

Marilog: The Perfect Escape from the City
At least 60 kilometers away from the heart of Davao City is a part of the city which is pollution-free, noise-free and fuss-free. Marilog District is part of Davao City’s Third District. It is about 1 hour away from downtown. It is essentially a forest which a few resorts and rest houses here and there. It is perfect for rest and relaxation. The air the refreshing and the view is breath-taking.
Here are a few glimpses at its splendor:
Formula Pete’s: Brews, Scoops and so Much More
Formula Pete’s. Sounds like the name of an auto shop, right? But it’s not. It’s a café and ice cream parlor located in the Wheels ‘n More strip. Unlike other cafés, this one is much less formal and much more like your friendly neighborhood barkada’s tambayan. The café’s bright interiors are embellished with news articles and posters that are proof of the proprietor’s love for cars. It gives an inviting and fun aura that is quite unusual for a café that takes its coffee concoctions seriously.
BAT CAVE in Kamudmud, Samal
Last summer, my relatives and I took a break at Kamudmud in the Island Garden City of Samal. We visited the bat cave in the area and here are some pics of the bats in their bat cave:
