Banana Leaf Asian Cafe

Although there’s no shortage of restaurants serving quality asian food in our beloved Davao City, the opening of the Banana Leaf Asian Cafe is a welcome development in the local food scene. Banana Leaf was one of my favorite restaurants in Metro Manila because of their delectable curry dishes which are so rich and flavorful. Each bite is followed by an explosion of flavors inside your mouth.

I recently tried out their newly opened branch along Sales Street and I was definitely not disappointed. The food is great. Since we were only there for snacks, my cousins and I only ordered the Roti Canai (PhP 68) and the Mee Goreng (PhP 168).

Roti Canai is a flat bread which originated from Malaysia. It is served with a semi-spicy but super-rich curry sauce. Meanwhile, Mee Goreng is a fried noodle dish. It’s spicy, salty and sweet. Although it’s fried, it’s not oily.

Aside from the Roti Canai, they also have other toasts and breads, and even sandwiches such as the Thai Burger (PhP 108). Also on the menu are various Asian salads, appetizers and snacks. One of my favorites is their Indian Vegetable Samosas (PhP 108) which is a deep-fried triangular pastry filled with vegetables and yoghurt.

They also have fried noodles and noodles in soup and rice dishes. Among which my top picks are the Malayan Curry (PhP 168) which is served with the meat of your choice and Hainanese Chicken. You may also choose from their selection of steamed rice, baked rice and fried rice dishes. The best one is the Chili N Spice Seafood Fried Rice.

And last on their menu are their stir fry and specialty dishes such as the Stir Fried Clams with Sweet Chili Sauce (PhP 188) and Wok Fried Squid with Basil Leaves and Chili.

You can complete your tour around Asia dining experience with any of their specialty teas (hot or iced) or finish off with an Asian dessert.

Give your taste buds a new experience, let them travel around Asia through the delicious dishes of Banana Leaf Asian Cafe.  Eating in Banana Leaf Asian Cafe is always memorable and best shared with other foodies. Meals are reasonably priced considering the unique tastes you experience with every bite you take. ;)

Banana Leaf Asian Cafe is located along Governor Sales Street, near Chimes.

Jan2x, I haven’t tried out any Indian restaurants here in Davao. But I heard there’s a good Indian kebab place in front of the Rizal Promenade.

They also offer lunch buffet every 1st day of the month. And I think on Oct 7, they will be presenting a LIVE telecast of the Pacquiao vs Barrera fight on flat screen TV with breakfast buffet.

Cafe Mediterranean in Chimes also offers Middle – Eastern dishes if you like Indian food. My personal favorites are Lamb Stew and Eggplant Parmigiana. I think they also have Buy 1, Get 1 Gyros everyday from 2:30pm to 5:30pm
